Doulting Rubble Wall House and Conservatory
This was a major extension to an existing old farmhouse. The client selected Doulting Stone after visiting the quarry and viewing the various styles on offer. The rubble stone was selected with the special rubble quoins that we developed at the quarry; these are sawn top and bottom, then cropped and the edges chipped so that once pointed in look like a rubble stone, but being sawn on the joints enables the builder to create a consistent corner or reveal to a window. This made fitting the aluminium windows easy as it gave a consistency of + or -2mm on the vertical line. The rubble stone was coarsed on site and the cills, heads and corbels were designed by the builder and ourselves. The project was completed on time and within budget.
